The faux painting schools classroom
has been designed to give YOU a fun,
interesting learning environment, and at the
same time demonstrate
what the faux finishes being taught would look like in
a full-scale application.
Upon entering the faux painting studio, students and prospective
clients are
surrounded by olde world
charm.
You will practice faux finishing on a 25-foot practice
wall,
complete with crown moulding and baseboards. This has
proven to be a very
valuable tool for teaching you the correct way to prep
on an actual jobsite.
No other faux finish school offers this!
You will also find a wonderful kitchen full of munchies
and a continental breakfast each morning while enjoying
our variety of faux paint classes!
This European atmosphere inspires even the most
conservative student!

Samples on
the classroom wall provide visual guidance regarding
each faux finish technique the student will learn,
so the end result is obvious.
All guesswork is removed.
You will have ample room to work at your own station,

Artistic Illusions Studio uses several lines of
products for the residential
and commercial projects they are
commissioned to do, so this is also what is taught
with at the faux finish school.
The faux painting classes are not strictly product-based
in their curriculum, but Dan and
Amanda know what works for them in the field, so

the techniques are taught with a wide variety
of readily available products and materials, many
of which can be purchased at any of the home improvement

SCHEDULE
Class
runs from 9am to 5pm each day.
During this time you will have personllized hands-on
instruction covering
a medley of requested and profitable faux finishes.
The faux finish school will provide all
the tools needed
for your work while you are
iattending our various faux painting classes, so
you won't need to bring any tools of your own.
In
the Professional Faux Finishes
- Level II class, a ready-made business equipment
tool bin is provided for each student to help launch
your business as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The materials
used in the beginning class are non-toxic,
water-based and easy to control - this helps
ensure you will be confident not
only in your ability to recreate the finishes after
completing our course, but develop your
own style and finishes when the need arises.
In
the mornings you will find a continental
breakfast
in the kitchen with coffee, bagels and munchies
of all types, and there is always juice and soft
drinks in the refrigerator.
For lunch you
can enjoy deli-style sandwiches from one
of the great eateries nearby!
If you have special diet requirements, just let
us know ahead of time...
Dinner each night is up to the
student, with the exception of Thursday evening
when the instructors take you to the world famous
Opryland Hotel for a business
dinner!
During
the business dinner we put our heads
together and discuss how to "fine-tune"
and apply the excellent new techniques you have
learned in class to fit your particular
market's needs. While at dinner we'll discuss
business strategies and solutions to challenges
for the artist already running a business.
The world famous Gaylord
Opryland Hotel was chosen to
host our business dinner due the tremendous amount
of faux painting and texture work done throughout
the hotel. There are many, many examples of different
levels of quality and styles of decorative finishes
to see, not to mention the outstanding food!

THE
FAUX FINISH INSTRUCTORS
So by now you are asking, "And exactly who
are the faux painting instructors?"
Well,
they are Dan and Amanda Folster, a husband and wife
team, making a great living as Decorative Faux Finishers.
Dan is the mathematical detail fanatic, and Amanda
is the artistic detail fanatic. Amanda thinks up
the crazy ideas, Dan figures out how to make them
work AND stay within codes! (Together they make
one really well-balanced person!)
Dan Folster
is the "jack of all trades, master of
most" type. His background begins with his
dad, Kenneth
Folster, who is ranked in the Top 5 in the United
States by Early American
Homes Magazine for his Windsor chair
crafting skills. Ken Folster has not only had a
personal request from the President and the First
Lady to hand-carve an ornament for the White House
Christmas tree, but now has his work displayed in
the Smithsonian Institute! (Yes, shameless bragging
on Grandpa Folster, but he deserves it!)
Besides being a fan of old
world textures, Dan Folster is an accomplished
woodworker of many years as well. He is an accomplished
trim carpenter. And a tile man. And a hardwood flooring
guru. (He restored the oak floors in the home of
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw!) and
a custom
home builder.
Dan has designed and built a television studio set,
theatre sets, room additions, buildings, and the
faux finish school Italian Piazza.

DELL'INSEGNANTE
Amanda Folster is the creative
side of this dynamic duo! An artist at heart, she
was the kid who was in trouble for drawing on the
walls, the teenager who was sent to the office for
doodling while the teacher was talking, the adult
who finally discovered her niche in the world with
murals, faux painting
and textures.
Amanda began painting murals professionally in Florida
in 1994, then branched into faux finishing and old
world textures after moving to Nashville in 1998.
She and her son Daniel have recently begun an artistic
wedding photography business together

Shortly after moving to Nashville, Dan and Amanda
joined forces when the faux painting side of the
business grew too big for Amanda to handle alone.
Since then, they've done work in some of the largest
homes in Tennessee, for the famous and
the reclusive, for businesses and individuals.
Yes, they (and quite a few of their local students)
have worked for famous people in Nashville-but they
don't brag about it...that's why they keep getting
the high-profile clients!
They decided to open Artistic Illusions Studio's
Faux Finish School at the urging of leaders in the
faux finish industry, who felt their natural willingness
and ability to teach others was "a gift that
should be shared" by taching faux painting
classes. It has been (and still is) their pleasure
to share what they know, and to learn from their
students as well! They feel it's very important
to continue learning and growing in order to stay
creative, and so are pleased to be fortunate enough
to help others learn these exciting paint and texture
techniques!
